Dubbed the “ultimately satisfying and even touching third feature from Palestinian director Muayad Alayan” by Neil Young of Screendaily, A HOUSE IN JERUSALEM impressed the world from East to West during its festival tour that started with a banging world premiere at the Netherland’s International Film Festival Rotterdam.

Leaving its mark on the festival circuit, the film went on to reap nominations here and there from some of the world’s most celebrated awards ceremonies, including the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, where it was nominated for the Best Youth Feature Film, and the Golden Rooster Awards, where it was in the running for a Golden Rooster.

Before that, it was featured in several prestigious festivals worldwide, including the Boston Palestine Film Festival, the Seattle International Film Festival, the Mostra de Valencia — Cinema del Mediterrani, the Athens Palestine Film Festival, the Palestinian Film Festival in Australia,  the Mostra Mundo Árabe de Cinema, and the Seoul International Children’s Film Festival.

Directed by Muayad Alayan, who also co-wrote the script with Rami Alayan, A HOUSE IN JERUSALEM follows the story of young Rebecca, who is forced to move with her father from the UK to Jerusalem in hopes that a new beginning can help her heal from her mother’s sudden death.

Soon after settling into an old house in a neighborhood known as the Valley of the Ghosts, a series of mysterious events occur that Rebecca takes the blame for. Diving deep into the mystery of the house and the mystical city of Jerusalem, Rebecca sets out on an enigmatic journey to discover what hides in the shadows of the house.

A HOUSE IN JERUSALEM features a star-studded cast, including British actor Johnny Harris, Makran Khoury, Souad Feres, Miley Locke, and Sheherazade Makhoul Farrell.

With MAD Solutions managing distribution in the Arab World, the film was co-produced by PalCine Productions in Palestine, Wellington Films in the UK, Red Balloon Films in Germany, Metafora Production in Qatar, and Key Film.

Muayad Alayan is a Palestinian film director and producer based in Jerusalem whose award-winning work has been seen by audiences all over the world.

His second feature film, 2018’s THE REPORTS ON SARAH AND SALEEM, premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, where it won the Special Jury Prize of the Hivos Tiger Competition and the Hubert Bals Audience Award. It was also awarded the Grand Jury Prize at the Seattle International Film Festival and Best Feature Film at the Durban International Film Festival.

His directorial feature debut, LOVE, THEFT, AND OTHER ENTANGLEMENTS premiered at the Berlinale Panorama in 2015 and went on to win two Best Arab Narrative Film Awards, as well as being nominated for several First Feature Awards at the Berlinale, Seattle International Film Festival, Taipei International Film Festival, Carthage Film Festival, and others. Moreover, it has been distributed in over 20 territories.

A House In Jerusalem is Alayan’s first English-language film. He is also currently developing his first US-set feature film.
